L02 task1: jobs rolls and skills

 The media sector I am going to investigate is Print and digital content.

Animator - digital and app 

skills needed for animation include A-levels or Higher in fine art, art and design, graphic design, or film studies. And a degree in one of the following:

  • animation
  • art and design
  • computer-aided engineering
  • design for moving image
  • electrical engineering
  • film and video
  • graphic design or illustration
  • model making or sculpture
  • multimedia
  • spatial design
  • 3D design.

Having IT skills, an artistic background and being creative are very important for this job roll.
communication and teamworking skills are important as animators have to work with story boarders and the team of animators they are in and have productive discussions and share creative ideas. Organization is important to work within the production schedule, create your drawings and animation to meet deadlines. Having experience and creating a portfolio Is important to show to admissions tutors or employers. Most animators begin as studio runners and then progress to junior animation roles.

Wider responsibilities for animators include animating appropriately to your specific theme/genre/ age rating, Depicting a characters culture and ethnicity appropriately/ accurately, networking with others, researching topics/ themes you will be animating.

Big name animation companies include: Cartoon Network, Ludo Studio, The Walt Disney company, Sony, Netflix, DreamWorks animation, Pixar, Nickelodeon, Laika, Aardman, Studio Ghibli and Cartoon Saloon. These companies cover several areas of animation such as: television, advertising, feature film, children's programs, games, music promos, titles and idents, adult comedy and drama.
